In Their Own Words
Robert Hargreaves

"I'd been putting off looking into my UK pension records for two years because I didn't know where to start. The helpdesk gave me a clear list of the right government portals and explained what each one was for. Took me about twenty minutes of reading and I finally felt like I knew what I was dealing with."

"The document toolkit is genuinely useful. I'd have preferred a couple more example categories in the checklist — a few of my records didn't fit neatly into the existing ones — but the 30-minute setup call helped me adapt the template to my situation. The filing structure itself is sound and I've kept it going for three months now."

"Attended the workshop last month with my wife. We went in expecting something a bit dry and were pleasantly surprised — the facilitator kept it conversational and there was plenty of time for questions at the end. Nothing was oversold; they were quite direct about what the session does and doesn't cover."

"I came with a specific question about where to find information on my Australian superannuation while living in Thailand. The helpdesk pointed me to the right ATO pages and a couple of bilateral information resources I hadn't found on my own. Very practical."

"Solid workshop. I thought it might be too basic for someone who's already done some reading on the subject, and parts of it were. But the Q&A was worth attending for alone — other participants raised things I hadn't thought about, and the facilitator handled questions that fell outside the scope honestly rather than bluffing through them."

"I bought the toolkit because I kept losing track of which documents I'd actually gathered versus ones I still needed to track down. The checklist in particular is sensible — it doesn't assume you've worked in finance, it just lists what tends to matter. I've referred three friends to Longview since."

How the Process Looks in Practice
Three Pension Records, No Filing System
A retired British engineer living in Bangkok had pension correspondence from a UK workplace scheme, the UK state pension, and a previous contract in Australia. The documents were spread across email folders, paper files, and an old hard drive with no consistent naming system.
Toolkit + Helpdesk in Sequence
He started with the document toolkit, which gave him a folder structure to categorise everything he already had. During the setup call, questions came up about one of the record types; a helpdesk enquiry resolved those the following day with links to the relevant official portals.
Clear, Organised, Actionable
Within a week, all records were categorised and stored consistently. He identified one record he'd assumed he had but hadn't actually received — and used the signposted portal to request it. Total time: two evenings of sorting.
"The structure made sense immediately. I just needed someone to hand me the map."
Approaching Retirement, Uncertain About the Basics
A Canadian professional in her mid-50s had been living and working in Thailand for eight years. She had general awareness that retirement planning should involve certain steps but had little clarity on what the relevant public systems were or what records she should be compiling.
Workshop Attendance
She attended a morning workshop at the Ekkamai premises. The session gave her an overview of how retirement systems generally work and pointed her toward the relevant Canadian public resources for her situation. The Q&A cleared up several things she'd misunderstood.
A Clear List of Next Steps
She left with the resource handout and a written note of three specific public portals to check. She subsequently came back to use the document toolkit to organise the information she'd gathered from those sources.
"I needed someone to tell me what questions to ask. The workshop did that."
